I have a weird sense of humor. Some things that everyone finds funny, totally turn me off. Some things that shouldn’t be funny, make me ROFLMAO. And it changes over time too. Absurd or ironic violence (or even death) in a movie used to turn me off. Now, if done well, I can appreciate it.
Anyway, that’s a prelude to this bit I found funny from Holy Taco called: 6 Celebrities Most Likely To Die In 2009.

Lance Armstrong never ceases to amaze me. The guy had testicular cancer for God’s sake. He recovered from that and proceeded to dominate the Tour de France. Now, at 37, not only did he announce his return to the Tour to raise cancer awareness, but it turns out that he and girlfriend Anna Hansen are expecting a baby. Think about that for a second. The guy had testicular cancer. Now he’s having a naturally conceived baby. Pretty remarkable.

Talk about bizarre. The conspiracy theorists out there think the Republicans stole the 2004 elections using a computer network that they had designed in Ohio. I admit that the facts on the ground are a little bizarre. But what’s more bizarre is that the guy who designed that computer network, and who was a Republican supporter, was scheduled to testify in court. He was also warned that his plane might be sabotaged. Now he’s dead.
Talk about bizarre.
I’m a little skeptical of the green movement. It’s not that I don’t want to go green. It’s not that I don’t want alternative energy… What I’m skeptical of is the attempt to market anything and everything as “green” - in something you’d expect straight out of The Onion, there are now green credit cards which give you a magical superpower: they let you help the earth by shopping. Can’t we call BS when we see it? Think about it for a second. First of all, consumption of any besides natural food cycle consumption is environmentally disruptive. Anytime you purchase and consume a product, you are hurting the environment - and this fact doesn’t change when you use the magical green credit cards either.
The fact of the matter is that you will be much more helpful to the environment by cutting back on your shopping than by getting a green card. This is the height of marketing fraud and deception in my mind. And it’s what I hate about the green movement.
More evidence that people are just so freakin’ predictable… not only is Church attendance skyrocketing in correlation with our current economic woes, but divorce rates are plummeting. Why? In the first case, because people are looking for something they can rely on (since the economy certainly has provided that security) and in the second, people are realizing that marriage has monetary benefits. So without the safety net of a strong social economy, people are turning to the finanical safety net of marriage.

I guess they sorta look hot… but bikini jeans???? Are you kidding me? What a crazy, ridiculous idea. So crazy I wouldn’t be surprised if it catches on. Just imagine a woman getting her picture taken in these things as a teenager and then having to explain to her kids how silly the fashion world was back when she was young.

It’s cool to see that we are learning how to harness common things for energy and not just relying on uncommon things. Up until now, we’ve had to rely on fast moving water to harness energy from water. But it looks like slow moving water (1 mph) can now be tapped too.

Lately, I’ve been trying to get a little more multi-cultural by becoming familiar with soccer … or as they call it everywhere else, football. While initially, it was hard for me to watch a football match, mostly because there is so much activity in the middle of the field, I’ve been getting into it more and more lately. While a lot of the fun is in watching the sport, I’m getting just as much pleasure by keeping up with the behind the scenes things like player transactions and also all the hilarious things fans say to each other (trash talking and such). One of the best places online I’ve found for informing myself about soccer culture is this football news site called Soccer Lens. The great thing about this site has been the way it gives a full picture of the international football lifestyle and the attitude of the fans.
One of my employees sent me an amazing book for Christmas called The Encyclopedia of the Dog. My wife and I have been looking through it as we thoroughly enjoy this time without a TV. One of the dogs that has really caught my attention is the Cane Corso (pictured above). According to this breeder Cane Corso’s were used during the Roman Empire as war dogs, so they have a long and prestigious history. They also have some of the best loyalty instincts among all dog breeds. Words that have been used to describe this breed: Noble. Regal. Protective. Extremely Loyal. Smart. Versatile.
What can I say. I’m not really into the cute, fluffy dog thing. I’m much more of a fan of the breeds that are strong and muscular yet noble and graceful.
Nature never ceases to amaze me. I just stumbled across this amazing list of 30 Beautiful Island Archipelagos. A must look!
going to the Jersey Shore this coming weekend. i don’t know how to explain this but in the winter, the Jersey Shore is about the most quiet place you can go on the East Coast. And if you’re like me, quiet = heaven. So this will be like a retreat for me. A time to refresh.

I had terrible librarians in high school. They always acted like you were intruding on their free time if you asked a question. But, I do know that there are some great librarians out there who really try to help students. Ms. Barrett at the Duxbury High School Library is one such person.
