I have been thinking about going back to get a masters degree in bioinformatics for a long time. Given where I live now (way out in the country), it would make sense to do it online. But I don’t want to go to just any school. I want a good education. Good grades mean nothing to me. I just want to learn … really learn. Not just pass tests. So I wonder if there’s a good online education to be had in bioinformatics. [Update] Here’s a 2012 online college ranking that seems too actually have some decent, traditional schools on it.

New rankings claim superior methodology

So many college rankings, so little time. I find them a rather bit boring. Here’s a new one to add to the fold: 50 Best Colleges 2012. Admittedly, the site has some balls claiming to have developed a superior ranking methodology to US News.

The big news item this week is the release of the 2012 US News College Rankings which apparently will happen tomorrow. Last year’s rankings were pretty boring, and unimaginative with the three big Ivies in the top 3 spots.

Sometimes cheaper is not better

I can remember when I just started out on the web. I was running my websites on a bunch of cheap ass web hosts and dealing with daily crashes and massive downtime. So much stress. You get what you pay for.

In the first year of running my websites I think I ended up doing over a dozen site transfers, and one site in particular I transferred between 4 hosts until I found one that was stable enough.

Sometimes cheaper is not better. You often get what you pay for. And when it comes to hosting, it’s the foundation of your online business so you better choose wisely.

Amy Winehouse Is Dead

There was no modern voice I liked better. Amy Winehouse had grit and character that you don’t usually see in today’s celebrity world. I admired her. Now she is dead.

I didn’t watch the Academy Awards

For whatever reason the Academy Awards have seemed dull to me lately. So I tuned out this year. I was glad to see that some of the better movies like Inception and The Social Network got some recognition. But really, this was a pretty bad year in terms of movie quality.
