Radiohead plus USC Marching Band

I’d have to say that this was my favorite moment from the Grammy’s this year: Radiohead Live at the Grammys w/USC Marching Band (VIDEO) There’s just something magical about Radiohead and it gets magnified when they introduce trumpets and unique percussion.

There are still some mysteries

At least there are still 5 mysteries left in the universe. Science hasn’t completely destroyed our innocence;-) Link: 5 Mysteries of The Universe

Movie Makeup

Sometimes redoing an actor or actress via makeup looks really cheesy. But sometimes it’s done so well you can hardly tell who the actor is. Here’s an article that celebrates the best movie transformations of all time: 16 Unique and Impressive On-Screen Transformations

The Best Web Hosts

Man, I’ve had nightmares with most of my web hosts at one point or another.  But thankfully some of them are actually great at customer support and helping you work through a problem.   That’s the key.   Here’s a list I found today of 13 of the best web hosts which stand above the rest.

Credit Card Companies & Card Names

I’m really trying to understand these credit card companies and the names they give their credit cards.  Names like “Motiva” and “All-Access” and “Platinum” and “Preferred Gold” – my sense is they are all trying to create the impression of empowering the card holder. That, or they are feeding on tribal instincts and the need [...]

Even Though We’re In Recession, Visa Posts A Healthy Profit

Just because the rest of the banking industry is in complete and utter meltdown doesn’t preclude you from turning a tidy profit as is the case at San Francisco based Visa, who’s first fiscal quarter profits are up 35% year on year. It’s not all good though: Visa are predicting a slowdown in revenue through [...]

How Much Can You Justify Spending On These Luxury Maldives Hotels? Lots!

If you were tasked with drawing an image of what paradise would look like, chances are you’ll come up with something involving palm fringed, white sand beaches brushed with by tropical azure lagoon. If that’s the case then you can live out your dream in these (very expensive) water villas in the Maldives. And by [...]

Where Do You Get Your Stock Images?

If you are a writer, then you’ll probably know all about the world of pain that is finding suitable imagery for your work. Of course there is always the trusty FLickr advanced search for CC licensed images, but more often than not that is an epic failure. Fortunately there are plenty of free or nearly [...]

School Psychologists – I admire you

One of my wife’s best friends is a school psychologist – bless her heart.   Or should I say, bless her sanity.   She has to deal with teenage angst the rest of her life.  Sucker.

The Best Geek T-Shirts

I’m a geek at heart.  I love gadgets and computers.  I love linux and coding.   And it’s been fun to see geek culture go mainstream with the advent of the Internet.  Now we can all wear our geekdom with pride: 25 Incredibly Geeky T-Shirts

Best College Movies

Anyone else remember the movie PCU? That was one of my all time favorites. Maybe if I were to watch it again I’d be embarrassed to call it a favorite, but it’s always been one of those movies from my youth that I’ll never forget. Sort of like The Crow (original only). Anyway, I was [...]

Free Software Tools

I’m a sucker for free software tools.   And I do some programming in my spare time.  So I was thrilled to find this article: 60+ Free Programming Tools

VoIP On Nokia Phones: It’s Easier Than You Think

While the iPhone has most certainly stolen a march on the rest of the mobile industry, who are now collectively and feverishly working to catch up, Nokia still remains the market leader in terms of world wide unit sales with a 40% share. An while their phones aren’t exactly renowned for stunning industrial design, they [...]

Is UK Plc. About To Go Bust?

I just read a really interesting post about government bank bailouts on Reddit, the basic premise of said article being that the UK cannot afford to keep on bailing out the banks because a continuation would result in the UK as a country to go bankrupt. Well written and insightful, I couldn’t recommend it any [...]

Add Value: Create An Outdoor Room

If you live in a part of the world where you are fortunate enough to actually have a climate, ie. distinct seasons, and not ‘weather’ then you should consider creating an outdoor room. Some people like to bring the outside in by incorporating large expanses of glass in their homes, flooding the interior with light [...]

Cheer Up With a Daily Joke

Previously on Thrivecore I had discussed a site that tracked the number of layoffs on a daily basis. Given there is so much depressing news at this time on the economic front, you may need some cheering up. Here are some daily joke sites to help put a smile back on your face. At least [...]

Track Layoffs As They Happen

Our global economy is hardly performing at its peak. Some reports suggest 50 million more people will become unemployed in 2009. 50 million! That’s  as many people as there are living in South Korea or Spain. So this site should be kept busy tracking layoffs.

Move To Australia: It’s Cheaper

When I first read this comparison of Australian property prices I was actually shocked. No, scratch that. I was jealous. For Australia, that sun-blessed continent down under, is also a land of incredibly affordable property (outside the inner cities that is). What would AUD $500,000 / USD $320,000 buy in the USA? Well, that depends [...]

File Conversion Services: They’re Very Useful

You’ve got to had it to Microsoft: they really know how to complicate a perfectly good file extension. For the average user like me .doc and .xls didn’t ever pose a problem. To coin a phrase frequently attributed to arch rival and CEO extraordinaire, Steve Jobs: it just worked. Well try saying that the next [...]

Obama Says Sorry Over Daschle

I didn’t know what to make of this. Initially I reacted with disbelief. A politician president apologizing? Absurd. Unheard of! Well, actually that’s exactly what Obama just did over the whole Daschle affair. To quote him: ‘I made a mistake‘.
