The credit crisis has been crunching companies and running up the unemployment figures in countries around the world. Just take a look at this list of huge layoffs to see for yourself.
First things first. The link in this post is going to be NSFW. Totally NSFW. Please do not click unless you are prepared for nudity. Now that that is out of the way, let me just say that I feel bad for this girl Rihanna. First she gets beat by her boyfriend. Then she lets him back into her life (stupid, stupid). And now nude pictures of Rihanna are plastered all over the Internet. Unless she is doing this for publicity, and I doubt it, let’s just say that Rihanna will wish that 2009 never happened.
Wow. I just checked out the District 9 Trailer and now I’m totally psyched to see it.
Now this idea could really change the world. Imagine being able to monitor your own health by using your cell phone? No need to imagine. It’s going to happen: 5 Innovative Ways Cell Phones Are Being Used To Save Lives
For me though the ultimate will be some kind of self-detection system for early stages of cancer. I hate that our current method of cancer detection is to wait until it basically shows outward symptoms. Would be great to catch it early.
If you’re like most people, you probably wonder if there’s ever going to be a cure for cancer? Check out this great explanation from a graduate biology student explaining why there will probably never be a single cure for cancer.
In this economic downturn, people are looking for ways to save money on just about everything. We don’t spend as much in the shops, we save more
money than before to make up for rampant spending, we travel less and when people do travel they spend less on flights and accommodation. Even our phone calls are feeling the crunch: we call less often, use Skype-to-Skype more and when overseas email will do. Well, that’s what I thought until I spotted this list of reasons to rent a BlackBerry Storm. Email, built-in mapping, GPS, 3G and GSM all come in very handy when you’re in a foreign country.
Here’s something for your coffee break. Deputy Dog has an interesting story about an abandoned rooftop rollercoaster in central Tokyo. Looks like the coaster is ready to go, but opposition from local residents in one of the world’s most densely populated cities combined with unforeseen lateral forces closed it down before it ever opened. Still, it looks pretty cool even if it does look like a half-complete Stargate.
When you spend 8 hour days at a desk, it doesn’t take long to get thoroughly bored with your surroundings. Especially if those surrounding are a typical office cubicle in a typical bland office building. It’s even worse when you consider their jumbo-sized carbon footprint. But there is a new breed of office block with more green credentials than you can shake a rather large stick at. These green office blocks show just what can be achieved when architecture meets sustainability, breaking free from the characterless and insipid working environments of the past.
LMAO. You have to watch this freakin’ video. Just hilarious. Jones Good Ass BBQ & Foot Massage
I have a lot of respect for atheists, even though if pressed I’d probably say that I’m a theist (a deep seated intuition that I can’t shake even when I want to). Anyway, in my view, there are a lot of good reasons for being someone who believes that there are no gods. I think there are some good reasons for believing that there is at least one god too. The main point is that I respect the atheistic viewpoint, and just as importantly, I have a deep respect for many atheists such as the ones on this list:
The 50 Most Brilliant Atheists of All Time
I think I would have liked this article better if it had been titled something like “10 Hottest Bikini Removal Scenes” but still, it’s not bad and many of these scenes were already etched in my memory: The 10 Hottest Bikini Movie Moments Of All Time

Technological progress over the last 100 years has been fast and furious, but if you ever needed convinced about how far on we’ve come then check out these room-sized old school printers from yesteryear. It’s hard to believe an office printer that commanded a permanent administration staff of two would ever be considered cutting edge!
Ever wonder why people Riot? Here’s an interesting academic rundown. Thankfully not as dull as a term paper! Phase II Radicalization
For whatever reason, human beings tend to assume that things are only good if they stay the same. The default reaction to change is one of fear. This is especially true about the economy. As economic needs shift, and certain sectors fail, the default assumption is that bad things are happening. But it’s not necessarily true. Who really wants to do the factory work that we’ve exported to China? Seriously? Isn’t it a net plus to our society that we have minimized the number of people doing factory work?
That’s my rant. Here’s the article that got me thinking along those lines: Industries & Trends that are Reshaping America
I love creepy tv characters just cuz I like to see solid character development on TV (rare) and usually to get creepy, the character has to have been developed well. So check it out. Here’s a list of the 13 Creepiest Characters from Television Shows.
It all comes down to the fear-state we live in. The government decided that car companies needed to make safer cars. Safer cars meant heavier cars. Heavier cars meant less gas mileage. You can read all about the reason this is a big fraud by our government here: MPG Wars: 1989 Honda CRX HF vs. 2009 Toyota Prius
I don’t think it’s a far stretch to say that Where The Wild Things Are was my favorite childhood book. It resonated with me deeply. The adventure. The tight connection between imagination and reality. Even the ode to childhood angst that you don’t get much in children’s books.
I’ve got bittersweet excitement about the upcoming Where The Wild Things Are movie. On the one hand, I’m excited at the potential. On the other, I’m cynical about the possibility of failure and tainting my favorite childhood book.
Regardless, I’m going to celebrate by wearing my long-cherished Where The Wild Things Are t-shirt.
Stories like this make you think that some people are born without feelings.
But then you realize that each one of us was born capable of becoming monsters if we had been raised in just the wrong way.

I was just reading about OnLive over at BusinessPundit. Simple but brilliant concept. Could be a darkhorse in the video game wars. I’m willing to bet it grabs some market share if nothing else.
