Where The Wild Things Are Movie

I don’t think it’s a far stretch to say that Where The Wild Things Are was my favorite childhood book. It resonated with me deeply. The adventure. The tight connection between imagination and reality. Even the ode to childhood angst that you don’t get much in children’s books.

I’ve got bittersweet excitement about the upcoming Where The Wild Things Are movie. On the one hand, I’m excited at the potential. On the other, I’m cynical about the possibility of failure and tainting my favorite childhood book.

Regardless, I’m going to celebrate by wearing my long-cherished Where The Wild Things Are t-shirt.

Anyone else remember the movie PCU? That was one of my all time favorites. Maybe if I were to watch it again I’d be embarrassed to call it a favorite, but it’s always been one of those movies from my youth that I’ll never forget. Sort of like The Crow (original only). I’m going to have to disagree with this list of the 25 Best High School Movies Of All Time. How is Superbad not number 1? Ok. Still a really good read. But come on… Superbad totally nailed my high school experience.

TorrentFreak reports that The Pirate Bay has surpassed 12 million users, which, given the huge publicity the site has garnered, isn’t very surprising. What caught my attention wasn’t the number of people giving the RIAA two fingers, rather the fact that they now have more seeders than leachers!

Darwin, Hitler and Science

Ben Stein’s new movie Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed takes the position that Darwin’s theory enabled Hitler. That’s probably true. But how’s it relevant for today in a world where scientists almost universally reject Hitler but accept Darwin? Clearly, Darwin does not entail Hitler. So what’s the point? It doesn’t have any relevance to addressing the truth of Darwin’s theory? I think it’s an attempt to muddy up the conceptual issues and create a negative association with the science of Darwin. This is a common tactic of advertisers and marketers: manipulate the viewer by creating unnatural associations.
